Enlarged facilities needed to meet company growth and expanding capabilities

Farmington, CT - Connecticut Spring & Stamping (CSS), a manufacturer of precision parts for the medical, aerospace, firearms, defense and other industries worldwide, announces that it has purchased a new building to provide additional production capacity, facilitate more efficient production layouts, and provide for future business growth. The company opted to purchase the 51,000 square foot building to accommodate nearly $2 million of additional equipment added or planned in the coming months, including spring coiling, fine blanking, CNC machining, Swiss machining equipment and assembly operations. The new building also eliminates the need to rent offsite warehouse and storage space.

CSS' new manufacturing facility is located 1,200 feet from the existing manufacturing space, and increases overall production capacity by 40 percent. The expansion helps CSS meet existing customers. requirements for increased production of current products and development of new products, and will also enable CSS to support new customers. With ample room for any future required expansion, CSS is considering the development of clean rooms, especially to meet the requirements of the company's growing roster of medical device customers.

The building is located on more than 8 acres and contains office and open floor space with loading docks on both ends, making it a perfect fit for CSS. production operations. CSS will be moving its four-slide division, CNC operations, as well as some processes that flow into assembly operations. Using its lean approach, CSS will set up efficient manufacturing sequences in the new space and will also be able to improve process flow at its existing facility.

"We continuously review our existing operations, seeking ways to do more work in less space with process improvements and waste elimination, but we passed the point where our lean improvements could keep pace with our space requirements," said Bill Stevenson, president of CSS. "We also continue to invest heavily in the latest equipment technology to meet customer tolerance and capacity needs and to have the most efficient equipment for the work we do. With the new building, we have an exciting opportunity to redesign our floor plans and equipment layout on a clean canvas to create the optimum production flow."
